Protecting the paparazzi is something often overlooked by police, and by the general population. Paparazzi are usually portrayed as stalkers who hide out in trees near celebrity homes. However, there has been increasing aggression against the paparazzi, and the courts are beginning to take notice.
Two men assaulted a paparazzo on the beach in Malibu (which is public property). The photographer was attempting to take a photograph of Matthew McConaughey when he was assaulted by the two men in question.
Skylar Martin Peak, 24, and Philip John Hildebrand, 30, both of Malibu, were each charged with one misdemeanor count of battery for attacking the paparazzo, Richid Altmbareckouhammou, who was working for a French news agency, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office said.
Officials claim the two men threw Altmbareckouhammou into the water from where he was taking pictures on the beach. Each faces up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
The incident occurred while McConaughey was surfing near a cove in Malibu. About a dozen paparazzi were on the beach taking pictures of the actor.
Los Angeles politicians passed a "Paparazzi Law" which attempted to limit the rights of the paparazzi, however there are few laws protecting the paparazzi from such viscious attacks as Mr. Altmbareckouhammou had to endure.

What happens when a group of people are following you everywhere and we are not movie stars…they stalk us the minute we leave the house until we get back in…My daughter’s ex-boyfriend works for Homeland Security and a report was placed against him for harassment, assault & stalking…When she left him, he angrily told her, “No, I am not done with you yet, with what I have to do with you!!! She told the officer & the Judge she is in fear for her life…The emergency restraining order was denied by the Judge…We live in a small town and most of them know each other….After this police report was made – he is now using the authorities of all types to his own advantage to harass & stalk us and it has escalated tremendously…He has been lying to people about us…These people are playing the role of paparazzi…they even follow us into the stores and they are terrorizing us…for a fact our phones are tapped, my computer is hacked, my car is tracked everywhere we go, my house is bugged with listening devices by the ex-boyfriend-homeland security…We are in fear for our lives…My daughter’s gym filmed a clip to play on YouTube, she came out working out in most parts of the film but somehow (they) the stalker made it possible to cut her out completely…not wanting her to be seen by the public in any way…for some reason this type of stalking is kept quiet, but they are playing the paparazzi role very discreet…it’s a dangerous game…they are all playing with our lives and they don’t want the public to know about it…WHY NOT HAVE THE REAL PAPARAZZI EXPOSE THESE PEOPLE TO LIGHT AND TURN IT AROUND ON THEM…They need to be caught red handed… We live in New Jersey and this case will not be judged fairly because the stalker, harasser works for Homeland Security and is using the authorities to protect himself, making us look like we are terrorist and we are not…We need our case to be heard outside of New Jersey but we don’t know where to start….We don’t know who to trust…It seems that he has all the authorities on his side….We are trying to get help and when we approach the authorities with this matter immediately they get a call from someone telling them to back down…Why?
